Downtown Lockdown Yangon
The great lockdown of 2020 felt like the clock had turned back a few years to the first time I visited Yangon in 2013.
The streets had fewer cars, many foreigners had returned home, the air was fresher and we had the streets to ourselves to enjoy the streetscapes and architecture that make this city so beautiful. Strict social distancing measures are in place and varied degrees of lockdown are in place in different townships. However, to welcome and reimagine the slower days of downtown was a welcome detournement when heading out for essential food supplies.
